Widespread throughout most of New Zealand, the Pukeko prefers to live in wet swampy areas. They are able to swim & can fly great distances.
The Pukeko stands on one foot while holding its food in the other. With its brillant colouring, the Pukeko has become a popular icon of New Zealand.
